== Event Basics == | |||
This event is focused around an intricate storyline, with many exploring and battling elements. The storyline is not required, but it helps explain the event's content! New explore encounters and enemies will appear while you're exploring in October, with their frequency increasing throughout the month. Meanwhile, complete tasks for a new NPC, Mohkra, to earn currency and experience! | |||
This event has an exclusive currency, Mysterious Effigies, which are obtained through exploring, playing the storyline, completing Mohkra quests, and trick-or-treating. Mysterious Effigies can be used to purchase items in the event shops as well as to send your wolves trick-or-treating. | |||
It’s important to note that the majority of this event's content does not become available until later in the month. For the first few days and weeks, your currency progress may feel slow. Rest assured! As soon as the corruption fully takes over Wolvden’s lands, you will find yourself progressing much quicker. | |||

Frequently-Asked Questions
| |||

| |||
=== Frequently-Asked Questions === | |||
How do you collect effigies? Why am I getting so few? | |||
At the beginning of the event, the only way to collect Mysterious Effigies is through exploring. A few new event explore encounters will grant the currency when you interact with them. After Tier 1 of Mohkra's shop opens, you can start gaining additional currency through Daily Requests. As the month progresses and the world becomes more corrupt, more of these encounters will appear. Battle enemies will become corrupted as well, and winning battles against corrupted enemies will reward event currency! After October 24th when the Pyre can be lit, trick-or-treating is a quick way to receive effigies. At the end of the month, completing the storyline rewards an additional currency bonus. | |||
Where is Trick-or-Treating? How do I access it? | |||
The official Trick-or-Treating mechanic becomes available on the 24th of October, after the Pyre is lit. Once you have lit the Pyre after that date, you will simply need to select a wolf from your pack on the Event page, and the game will handle the trick-or-treating for you! The selected wolf does not need to have a special role such as Traveler, it can be any of your pack wolves. You can read details about the trick-or-treating mechanic in the designated section of this page. | |||
If you would like to participate in some kind of trick-or-treating before the 24th, you may enjoy the player-made game. You can find details about it here! If you see any players with the phrases "Lights On" or "Lights Off" in their display names, they are likely participating in this player-run game as well. | |||
When does the story start? | |||
This month's storyline opens on October 5th. Starting at midnight on October 5th, you can access it using the Ashen Oath banner on the Event page. | |||
What are smouldering effigies and what do they do? | |||
Smouldering Effigies are an item that can be obtained after the Altar opens on the 24th of October. You will receive 10 Smouldering Effigies after sacrificing 10 Mysterious Effigies to open the Altar. After that, you may receive extra Smouldering Effigies through trick-or-treating! The effect of this item on your wolf will be randomized between eight possible options (six for lead wolves). | |||

| |||
=== Spider Visuals Filter === | |||
Wolvden offers a toggle for spider visuals year-round, but it can be extra useful during this event for arachnophobes or others who would prefer not to see spiders while exploring! This option on your profile page will replace any spider visual in explore with another image. This won't affect decorations, shop images, or spiders elsewhere on site- it will only apply to explore images. | |||

| |||
You can find the toggle in the Account Settings section of your profile page. | |||

== Ashen Oath Storyline == | |||
This event features a month-long storyline, introducing you to many NPCs and providing context for the corruption settling over the world in October. The storyline becomes available on October 5th and it can be accessed from the Event page or through this direct link. You can find a link to the storyline's wiki directory below, and then follow along to separate chapter pages to learn more about the story! | |||

| |||
=== Spellbook === | |||
After completing Chapter 1 of the Ashen Oath storyline, you will have access to a Spellbook! This page contains spells that can be cast once per day to benefit your wolves and pack. As you continue in the storyline, you will unlock more spells. All spells can only be unlocked with completion of the storyline. | |||

| |||
In order to cast spells, you must use Spell Vigor. Spell Vigor can be collected through sacrificing small animal carcasses and herbs in your Hoard. To sacrifice an herb or small carcass for vigor, visit the item's page in your Hoard and select the Sacrifice for Vigor option next to the Bury button. Each item use will provide 1 Spell Vigor, and you can store up to 100 vigor at a time. For example, a 4-use Grouse Carcass will provide 4 vigor when sacrificed. Spells cost 10, 20, or 50 vigor to cast depending on the significance of the spell. | |||
< | |||

| |||
By the end of the storyline, there will be seven spells available to cast. Additional spells are unlocked after each chapter: you will not have all seven spells available right away. Each spell can be cast once per day, assuming you have enough vigor to do so. All spells are listed below. | |||

== Exploring == | |||
Throughout the month, a gradual corruption will settle itself over the landscapes of Wolvden. At the start of the event, you'll be able to find spooky new encounters and battle a few new enemies. As the community collects more and more Mysterious Effigies, the corruption will begin affecting local fauna and attract more powerful monsters. Winning battles against corrupted enemies will reward Mysterious Effigies! | |||

After Tier 1 of Mohkra's shop opens, the corruption of explore biomes begins! Corrupted enemies and new encounters become visible in explore, and biome artwork changes as well. The Pyre is an additional interaction near the end of the Halloween event. It remains unlit and dormant for most of the month, but you can find a countdown to when it becomes active on the Event page. | |||

As you look closer you can see bundles of twigs carefully placed between the gaps where the logs are stacked, tied with dried vines. They look vaguely human and remind you of the bundles you've come across in your travels. A shiver runs down your spine; this is an unnatural place, and sets you on edge. | |||

Beginning on October 24th, you can sacrifice 10 Mysterious Effigies to light the Pyre! === The Altar === | |||
Lighting the Pyre on or after October 24th will reveal the Altar, a new shop containing decorations and applicators! | |||

To purchase something from the Altar shop, you must select an item from the Offering Rewards list. Selecting an item will display it on the Altar, and then allow you to sacrifice your Mysterious Effigies in exchange for the item. | |||

All Altar shop content is available right when the Pyre has been lit, and you can purchase an unlimited amount of each item (though you may only purchase one item at a time). You must also wait five minutes between purchasing each item. | |||

=== Trick or Treat === | |||
Once the Pyre has been lit, you will be able to access a new trick-or-treating mechanic! This mechanic is available on the Event page on or after October 24th, when the Pyre is available to be lit. | |||

You can trick-or-treat as many times per day as you would like, but the action has a 5-minute cooldown. For a cost of 1 Mysterious Effigy, you may send one of your wolves to travel to another player's den to trick-or-treat. The den that they will visit is chosen completely randomly, but only actively-online players can be selected. | |||

The player who your wolf visits will receive 1 Smouldering Effigy, while you will earn 2-3 Mysterious Effigies in return! Event Basics
Event Basics
Frequently-Asked Questions
| Possible Smouldering Effigy Effects |
|---|
| One effect will be applied randomly when this item is used on a wolf |
| Wolf's energy is fully restored |
| Wolf's hunger is fully restored |
| Wolf's HP is fully restored |
| Wolf's mood is fully restored (pack wolves only) |
| Wolf's energy is fully depleted |
| Wolf's hunger is fully depleted |
| Wolf's HP is fully depleted |
| Wolf's mood is fully depleted (pack wolves only) |
Spider Visuals Filter
Spider Visuals Filter
Wolvden offers a toggle for spider visuals year-round, but it can be extra useful during this event for arachnophobes or others who would prefer not to see spiders while exploring! This option on your profile page will replace any spider visual in explore with another image. This won't affect decorations, shop images, or spiders elsewhere on site- it will only apply to explore images.
You can find the toggle in the Account Settings section of your profile page.
Ashen Oath Storyline
Ashen Oath Storyline
This event features a month-long storyline, introducing you to many NPCs and providing context for the corruption settling over the world in October. The storyline becomes available on October 5th and it can be accessed from the Event page or through this direct link. You can find a link to the storyline's wiki directory below, and then follow along to separate chapter pages to learn more about the story!

Spellbook
Spellbook
After completing Chapter 1 of the Ashen Oath storyline, you will have access to a Spellbook! This page contains spells that can be cast once per day to benefit your wolves and pack. As you continue in the storyline, you will unlock more spells. All spells can only be unlocked with completion of the storyline.
By the end of the storyline, there will be seven spells available to cast. Additional spells are unlocked after each chapter: you will not have all seven spells available right away. Each spell can be cast once per day, assuming you have enough vigor to do so. All spells are listed below.

Exploring
Exploring
Throughout the month, a gradual corruption will settle itself over the landscapes of Wolvden. At the start of the event, you'll be able to find spooky new encounters and battle a few new enemies. As the community collects more and more Mysterious Effigies, the corruption will begin affecting local fauna and attract more powerful monsters. Winning battles against corrupted enemies will reward
Mysterious Effigies!
After Tier 1 of Mohkra's shop opens, the corruption of explore biomes begins! Corrupted enemies and new encounters become visible in explore, and biome artwork changes as well. Below, you can find all Summer Daytime corrupted biome artwork which replaces normal artwork during this month's corruption.
| Corrupted Explore Backgrounds | ||
|---|---|---|
| Grasslands | Deciduous Forest | Mountains |
| Riparian Woodland | Prairie | Coniferous Forest |
| Desert | Taiga | Swamp |
| Tundra | Rainforest | Glacier |
The Pyre
The Pyre
The Pyre is an additional interaction near the end of the Halloween event. It remains unlit and dormant for most of the month, but you can find a countdown to when it becomes active on the Event page.
Beginning on October 24th, you can sacrifice 10 Mysterious Effigies to light the Pyre! Doing so allows you access to a few more event features, the Altar and Trick-or-Treating. In exchange for the 10 sacrificed
Mysterious Effigies, you will receive 10 Smouldering Effigies!
The Altar
The Altar
Lighting the Pyre on or after October 24th will reveal the Altar, a new shop containing decorations and applicators!

To purchase something from the Altar shop, you must select an item from the Offering Rewards list. Selecting an item will display it on the Altar, and then allow you to sacrifice your Mysterious Effigies in exchange for the item.
All Altar shop content is available right when the Pyre has been lit, and you can purchase an unlimited amount of each item (though you may only purchase one item at a time). You must also wait five minutes between purchasing each item.
Trick or Treat
Trick or Treat
Once the Pyre has been lit, you will be able to access a new trick-or-treating mechanic! This mechanic is available on the Event page on or after October 24th, when the Pyre is available to be lit.
Trick or Treat
The fire is lit! Wolves can travel through the flames and appear in untold places. Feeling devious, or simply generous?
Choose a wolf, submit a Mysterious Effigy (
-1 ME), and find out what happens!
You sent Tala off to find another pack. They found Conall, leader of The Chaorainn Pack!
The player who your wolf visits will receive 1 Smouldering Effigy, while you will earn 2-3 Mysterious Effigies in return! You do not receive any notifications if you are trick-or-treated, but there is a log of trick-or-treats on the Event page. The Smouldering Effigies you receive from a trick-or-treat are automatically sent to your Hoard.
- Trick or Treat Notices
- A Smouldering Effigy beckons in the twilight, a spooky souvenir from Tala's latest escapade!
Mohkra
Mohkra
This month's primary shop is run by a new shopkeeper, Mohkra! Tiers of her shop will open as the community gathers more Mysterious Effigies. At Mohkra's shop, you can exchange
Mysterious Effigues for decorations and backgrounds. In the final tier of her shop, you'll be able to purchase special breeding items and applicators!
Daily Requests
Daily Requests
Once Tier 1 of the event opens and Mohkra's shop becomes available, players may take daily requests from Mohkra herself! You can find daily requests at the top of the Mohkra store page. You may take one request per day in exchange for EXP and Mysterious Effigies!
Mohkra turns towards you, a secretive and playful expression on her face. Her silken voice carries words to your ears: "I need some ingredients. Would you help me?"
Mohkra will request one random carcass, herb, or skull.
Mohkra flicks her ears forwards, noting your presence. She is waiting. "I need a Porcupine Carcass."
Please submit the following items:
This will select the lowest use (first) and closest to rotting (second) items available in your hoard.
You may skip one of Mohkra's requests using 1 Mysterious Effigy. This will end the request without reward and provide you an opportunity to accept a new request. You can skip requests as many times per rollover as you would like.
Items given to Mohkra do not need to be full-uses. Once the item is submitted, it will be removed from your Hoard. In exchange for the requested item, Mohkra will reward you with lead wolf EXP and 5 Mysterious effigies. The amount of EXP granted is equal to your lead wolf's level multiplied by 10, with up to a 20 point positive or negative adjustment ((LVL x 10) ± up to 20). The rewards granted for completing a request remain the same regardless of what item was given.
