Pup Training

Pup Training

After rolling over five times, you can start training your puppies! Puppy training is accessed through the Puppy Training icon on the Crossroads. A unique quest also becomes available on your fifth rollover, as long as you have completed 'The Next Generation' quest, which will walk you through the training process. This quest is not required to start training puppies, but it does award a Guarana upon completion!

In order to be eligible for training, a puppy must be weaned and younger than adolescence (at or between 2 1/2 months and 5 1/2 months).

Lessons

Lessons

Puppy training is done via lessons which are taught by adult wolves in your pack. Puppies can participate in one lesson every day for a total of 7 lessons throughout the 7 rollovers that they are eligible to be trained.

Lessons are 1, 2, or 3 hours long, and the longer the lesson, the more stats are gained. Puppies do not gain the stats immediately, however. Instead, they gain these stats once they are adults, and their stat gains will be listed in your Daily Rollover Summary when they reach adulthood.

Up to 4 puppies can join a single lesson. Any adult wolf in your pack can be the teacher as long as they fit the requirements for the lesson. Each lesson will take 20% energy per hour of the lesson. 1 hour lessons will take 20% energy, 2 hour lessons will take 40% energy, and 3 hour lessons will take 60% energy. This means the wolves participating in the lesson, including the teacher, must have at least that much energy to begin the lesson. Wolves cannot perform other tasks while training.

My wolf matches the requirements for the lesson, why aren't they showing up in the menu?

A: A common issue players run into when setting up puppy training lessons is a lack of energy. If you are setting up a 3-hour lesson, the adult wolf must have at least 60% energy. They will not show up in the training menu if they do not have this much energy!

Each lesson affects a specific stat -- strength, speed, agility, wisdom, or smarts. The lesson will reward the puppy with a certain amount of the specific stat depending on how long the lesson is. A 1-hour lesson will give +3 stats, a 2 hour lesson will give +6, and a 3 hour lesson will give +9.

Lesson Length Base Stats Gained Energy Requirement Tutor Requirement Item Requirement
1 hour lesson 3 stats gained 20% Taught by any tutor No required item
2 hour lesson 6 stats gained 40% Taught by any tutor Item required
3 hour lesson 9 stats gained 60% Taught by wolf with specific role*, or a Mentor No required item
* 3 hour lessons require wolves with specific roles to complete. For example, some require Pupsitters while others require Scouts. If you would not like to use a wolf with one of these specific roles, you can use a Mentor instead!

The amount of stats that are given to the trained pups are heavily affected by the teacher's stats.

If the specific stat of the tutor isn't at least 50% more than the stat of the pup that's being trained, the pup will lose -1 stat boost per hour of the lesson. For example, if the puppy has 50 STR and the tutor does not have at least 75 STR, and they are teaching a three hour lesson, the puppy will only gain +6 STR instead of +9. Additionally, if the teacher's stat is the same as or even less than the pup's, the pup being trained will lose -2 stat boost per hour of the lesson, resulting in +1/+2/+3 rather than +3/+6/+9. Before choosing a tutor, make sure that their stats are high enough to negate these stat cuts!

If a puppy completes all three lessons within a specific stat, they will receive a bonus for that stat. Puppies can also gain occasional survival chance boosts for training.

Grouse Tip!
Wondering how to maximize the amount of stats your pup gets from training?

The maximum amount of stats a puppy can receive from training is 63. This can only be achieved if the teacher has at least 50% more of each stat being trained than the puppy does. There are two options you can choose from when deciding which lessons to start.

A puppy could complete all 3-hour lessons for each stat (+45), plus the 1- and 2-hour lessons for one of the stats (hence getting the bonus for that stat and receiving +18). Alternatively, you could complete all of the lessons for two stats (hence getting the bonuses for those stats and receiving +54), as well as one other 3-hour lesson (+9). If you want to train your pup for a specific role rather than general stat increase, the latter option may be a better choice for you.

Below is a table of all the lessons that a puppy can complete. You can view which lessons a puppy has finished by finding the Training tab on their page.

Mentors

Mentors

Wolves can be given the Mentor role after they are at least 5 years old, and at least level 5. Mentors can conduct any lesson regardless of role requirements. Mentors do not have a role cooldown, meaning you can switch a mentor out of the role, and then back into it, as many times per day as you would like.

Unlike other roles, mentors do not gain proficiency, but they (as well as any other wolf conducting lessons) get EXP for training puppies. The amount of puppies they train at one time does not matter -- they will always get the same amount of EXP regardless of how many puppies they are training. The amount of EXP gained seems to be random but falls within a range based on how long the lesson is. Wolves teaching lessons may also gain two stats a day in the stats that they are training, as long as they haven't gained stats from other tasks that day.
