Chapter 2 Page 1

The changes you've seen have shaken you. The land is twisting, animals are taking on strange appearances, and the air smells...stale.

You shake out the prickling feeling of unease in your fur and pad the familiar path to the grove. Surely the witches know what's happening!
Chapter 2 Page 2

As you approach the coven's domain, you're surprised to notice that nothing here has changed. It appears just as it did before, as if there's a sort of bubble around it.

Saligia and her sisters go about their business as if nothing is out of the ordinary. There's a pair grooming each other under a tree, another sorting ingredients, and three others circled around a small doe carcass.

All very mundane...too mundane.

Hearing your pawsteps, Saligia perks her ears and turns to greet you.

"[Name]! Have you come to practice your spellwork?"
Chapter 2 Page 3

You tell the she-wolf about the alarming sights you've seen lately. The more you tell her, the bigger her smile grows.

"Oh [Name], don't be so worried! This is wonderful news. The world isn't what's changing; it's you. It means you're growing stronger. The more spellwork you do, the more you'll change. I know it may not make sense now, but it will."

So the witches are aware of the change...but clearly they aren't worried. Maybe you're overreacting?

A strange croaky laugh escaped her muzzle.

"Don't you worry, my dearest [Name]. I am right. You have nothing to worry about."

Her attention strays to her sister witch sorting ingredients.

"Ah! That's what I wanted to ask--would you be able to gather more ingredients? We're running a bit low with all of the practicing you've been doing."

A flash of irritation crosses Saligia's face before she lets out a scolding tut.

"Trust me, [Name]. I've been doing this much longer than you. I'm not wrong."

An awkward silence stretches between you until the witch sorting ingredients draws her attention.

"Ah! That's what I wanted to ask--would you be able to gather more ingredients? We're running a bit low with all of the practicing you've been doing."

Her wolfish grin attempts to ease the tension unsuccessfully.

The witch seems pleased.

"Good, good. I'll see you when you return."

She turns away to rejoin her sisters, looking ruffled. You peer at the suspiciously well-stocked ingredient pile. It sure doesn't seem like more ingredients are needed, but perhaps she knows best.

Or perhaps she's trying to get rid of you.

Saligia glares at you with undisguised malice.

"Well, we are. Don't argue with me, [Name]; just do as I say."

She whips around and stalks back to her sisters, not sparing you a second glance.

You hurry away from the grove, your pelt prickling. Why had she gotten so angry? A sharp tugging interrupts your thoughts, and you feel yourself being pulled back to your territory.

Ashen Oath

A young female wolf bounds toward you, eyes flashing. The tug you feel in your chest grows stronger, and you realize it's drawing you to her.

"You there! Stop!"

You hesitate for a moment, conflicted. Whatever is urging you to go to her is quite insistent...yet she looks strange, as if she's twisted somehow.

Go to her

Chapter 2 Intermission

As the wolf slides to a stop, she nearly touches noses with you. Her eyes are angry as she glares at you, but you can see something else there, too: pain.

"Just what do you think you're doing? I can smell them all over you. Don't tell me you believe their nonsense!"
Chapter 2 Page 7

The wolf's eyes nearly disappear into her skull as she rolls her eyes.

"I'm sorry, I didn't realize introductions were more important than saving the world."

With a snarl she snaps at your whiskers angrily.

"Stop being stupid. Look at what the witches are doing!"

You take a moment to study her. Red crystals sprout from her forehead, forming a sort of half circle. They glow the same color as her eyes, and a black shaggy mane takes the place of normal fur. As her tail whips back and forth, you see it ends in a hardened tip.

She reminds you of what you've been seeing lately, and what Saligia has said is nothing to worry about.

"Don't tell me you're that oblivious. The witches! Look at what they're doing!"

Chapter 2 Page 8b

She claws at the ground in exasperation, ears flattened angrily.

"Yes! Very real. They told you it wasn't, didn't they? I can tell just by the look on your face. Disgusting."

She spits at the ground and continues on with malice, "All of this is a result of what they do--what they did--when I left them. Magic is all well and good but it comes with a price."
Chapter 2 Page 9

"I'm not going to tell you that you're special, if that's what you're looking for," she says with a smirk.

"At least not in the way you want. You're not affected because you're one of them...one of their circle. You're protected from the corruption, while the rest of us suffer from your idiocy."

She begins to pace, mumbling to herself and completely ignoring your presence.
Chapter 2 Page 10

She whips around, fur on end and eyes troubled.

"Every time these witches use their so-called magic, it alters something here in the natural world. Not that they care, since they want this place to be as corrupted as they are. A match made in hell."

Her claws swipe across the dirt in anger at that last word, leaving deep gashes in the soil.

"We have to stop them. Soon your packmates and everything you hold dear will begin to twist and change, but by then it will be too late."
Chapter 2 Page 11

"My name is Kora, and you're a nuisance. Enough of this, we're wasting time. Are you going to help me or not?"
Chapter 2 Page 12

This page appears if you clicked "I'm [Name]. Tell me what you have in mind *" on Page 12.
Kora smiles with a devilish gleam in her eye.

"Yes. Go back to them, eagerly wanting to help. With your access and my knowledge, we'll stop their corruption before it goes too far. Come and find me when you find out more."
Chapter 2 Page 13a

A shriek escapes her jaws and she lunges, barely missing your throat.

You find yourself stumbling backwards, wholly unprepared for her reaction.

"Then go, [Name], you traitor! Go back to your precious witches while your pack stands to suffer a fate worse than death!"

With a turn she disappears into the shadows.
Chapter 2 Page 13b

You make your way back to the grove, thoughts bouncing in your head.

As you approach Saligia, she lifts her head from her paws and looks at you expectantly. With a start you realize you were supposed to bring back ingredients. Shit.
Chapter 2 Page 14

Her nose lifts into the air and her eyes go wide as she smells Kora's faint scent on you.

"The Outsider. You met her? What did she want?"

Her eyes focus on you intently, and her sisters hover nearby, watching with great interest.

Saligia's eyes flash and she peels her lips back into a snarl.

"Liar! Don't let your mind be soured by her poison. She is lost, and was cast out as an outsider. We are not evil--we simply have knowledge and use it to fuel our power. Things are far more grave than I thought--come, [Name]. It's time you learned a critical spell to help us maintain balance."

She heads to the ingredient pile, beckoning you to follow.
Chapter 2 Page 16

You need the following ingredients to continue:

• 1 x Arnica

• 1 x Carrionflower

• 1 x Cedar Bark

• 1 x Charcoal

• 1 x Yarrow

Chapter 2 Page 17

"Now that we have all of the required ingredients, watch closely, [Name]."

She arranges the effigy and the ingredients in a certain order before closing her eyes and letting her energy feed into the ingredients. After a moment her eyes snap open again, and the energy surrounding the effigy is different than before.

With a smile, she pushes it toward you.

"It's very simple. As long as you have these ingredients and an effigy, you will be able to restore these poor creatures around us to a better state. It won't even cost you any extra energy!"

Saligia laughs and shakes her head.

"Not quite that easy, [Name]. You will have to fight them so that they are weakened, and can be properly restored to their true state. Once they reach 10 HP or less you can restore them."
Chapter 2 Page 19

"That's the spirit! Now go, my friend. Give these creatures what they deserve."

Find Kora

Find Kora

The following pages appear if you clicked "Find Kora and tell her what you've learned" on Page 20.
Instead of finding Kora, she finds you. Her face twists into a snarl when you tell her what the witches taught you.

"Restoring, they say. What a choice of words. I suppose from their view point, corrupting is restoring things to what they like. Don't use it, [Name]. It will twist the poor creatures of this world even more than they already are. I'll teach you something better--a way to purge the corruption."
Chapter 2 Page 21a

You need the following ingredients to continue:

• 1 x Turmeric

• 1 x Tobacco

• 1 x Feverfew

• 1 x Garlic

• 1 x Goldenseal

Chapter 2 Page 22a

"Now then, it looks like you have everything. Not quite as grisly as the other spell, eh? These ingredients will infuse the effigy with healing energy. From there, you can purge the corruption from a creature. There's just one thing--they have to be in a weakened state. You'll have to fight them first, and get them down to at least 10 HP."
Chapter 2 Page 23a

Kora shakes her head with a sad smile.

"No. Only an uncorrupted being can perform the spell. Perhaps, once you grow stronger..."

She trails off, considering you thoughtfully.

"But for now, pull the energy from yourself and gather the ingredients in its wave. Let your energy twine with that of the ingredients and once that is complete, infuse the effigy with it."
Chapter 2 Page 24

With a nod of approval, Kora gestures at the ingredients.

"You will need to have the ingredients with you any time you want to heal a creature--infusing the effigy only works once. Your energy will also drain more quickly...but you'll be helping. A fair trade, I think."
Chapter 2 Page 25

"Good. You're doing the right thing here, [Name]. Now, go and practice the spell and get stronger. Tell no one what you're doing, not even your packmates. If even a whisper of this gets back to the witches, we're doomed."

You watch as she turns and leaves, shooting you an encouraging smile over her shoulder.

For the first time since you've met her, Kora looks happy. News of you fighting back the corruption has brightened her spirits.

"Well done, [Name]. We must keep going if we are to successfully win this battle. Keep purging the corruption as much as you can."
Chapter 2 Page 28

She snorts, looking amused.

"What about me? Do you think you're strong enough to try and purge my corruption?"

Kora studies you, and you look at her twisted form. She's strong; battling her will be difficult. Are you up for the challenge?

Ashen Oath

Once Kora has low HP, a Heal Spell can be performed.

Chapter 2 Page 30a

Kora stumbles and her legs shake as she nears defeat. It's now or never--you have to try and purge her corruption!

Taking a deep breath, you let your energy join with that of the healing ingredients and siphon them into the effigy. It pulsates with energy and in one swift movement, you grasp Kora by the scruff and hold her down as the effigy does its work.
Chapter 2 Page 31

Kora struggles, but she's in such a weakened state that she poses no challenge. Her body absorbs the healing energy from the effigy, and she lets out a gasp as her body rips away from your hold unexpectedly.

You go to restrain her again--but there's no need. Two soft amber eyes blink at you, and plain gray fur stirs in the wind.

She's a normal wolf again!
Chapter 2 Page 32

She just stares at you silently, looking back and forth between you and her normal wolf body. It's as if she can hardly believe it.

When she does speak, it's very soft.

"Thank you, [Name]. Thank you. I...I need some time alone, if you don't mind. Our work isn't done, but I need to catch my breath. Return to your work--I'll find you when we're ready to do more."

Saligia looks fit to burst with pride; clearly, you've exceeded her expectations.

"Wonderful job, [Name]! You're off to a great start. Surely now you see what we're up against--these poor creatures need our help to restore them to their proper state. Now go, continue helping them!"

Saligia returns to her witchly duties, leaving you alone with your thoughts. After what you've seen, it's time for you to make a choice. You can continue helping the witches, or you can seek Kora out instead.

Instead of finding Kora, she finds you.

She's changed since the last time you saw her. Now, she's even more twisted than before, and you can almost see the anger radiating off of her.

"Stupid pup! Have you seen reason yet? The more you corrupt, the worse things get. This isn't normal!"

She snarls in your face, and you can smell her hot, decaying breath--it's as if her insides are changing, too.

"This is your last chance, wolf. Help me--or I will do everything I can to make sure you don't succeed."

She disappears, and her words make you shiver with unease. That's not the last you've seen of her.
