Gene's Hollow is a permanent shop accessible through the Crossroads run by Gene, an albino brown long-eared bat. The shop will allow you to reveal if your wolves are carriers for recessive genetic mutations, for a small fee of 50–150 SC per transaction depending on if you choose all genetics or only certain ones. Currently, the only known recessive genetic mutations are Albinism, Brachycephaly, Hereditary Cataracts, and Melanism, but it is likely more will be added in the future.

Gene

Inside of the cave, teeming with bioluminescent light, you spot a small, winged albino creature, clinging onto the side of a rather large rock.

The creature seems to have just returned from somewhere, and busies himself by finding a comfortable spot to rest on the rock. Just as he is beginning to curl his wings over his head, he catches sight of you from the corner of his eye and flinches.

"Goodness, you startled me. You could have said something!" He scolds, but softens soon after. "Ah, you must require my services. I am Gene," he offers, regarding you with piqued interest. "You must have come to me to seek out my knowledge. Yes, yes. I can see you are a fellow that appreciates the miracles of science."

He crawls forward on the rock. "I have perfected a process after a long period of study. Bring a wolf to me - any wolf from your pack, or even yourself," he offers you a wink - "and I can help uncover whether they carry the genes that produce... Well, produce..." He swallows. "Differences. Mutations, if you will. I only ask that you pay me for my time."

Checking Genetics Report

Checking Genetics Report

You can access a genetics report through your wolf's page by clicking on them and scrolling down to their bio. The "Carrier Status" will lead you to a report. If a wolf has had a genetics check done on them or has a presenting genetic mutation, the Carrier Status will read "View Report"; if a wolf has not had a genetics check done and does not have a genetic mutation, it will simply read as "Unknown."

Clicking on the Unknown status will automatically lead you to Gene's Hollow, where you can then proceed to have their genes checked. If a wolf has a genetics report, clicking on View Report will take you to a page where you will see if a wolf is a carrier for any genetic mutations.

A question mark next to a mutation means it has not been checked for and its status is unknown; a checkmark means that the wolf is a carrier for the mutation; a X means that the wolf is not a carrier for that specific mutation; a DNA Strand means that the wolf has that specific mutation.

Revealing Genetics

Revealing Genetics

"In exchange for some Silver Cones, I can reveal if your wolf is a carrier of mutations. With my scientific methods, I can check all of the ones we know about. This will be a permanent fixture, and I'll only need the fee once per wolf."

For the price of 150 Silver Cones, you can see if the selected wolf is a carrier ALL available recessive genetic mutations

Grouse Tip!
This option will save you 50 SC! It, however, can only be used on entirely "Unknown" wolves. Wolves who have previously had a gene revealed or have a genetic mutation will NOT be able to take advantage of this discount.

Revealing Specific Genetics

Revealing Specific Genetics

"In exchange for some Silver Cones, I can reveal if your wolf is a carrier of a SPECIFIC mutation. This will be a permanent fixture, but I will only check the mutation you choose. You will be able to check the others later, but not all of them at once."

For the price of 50 Silver Cones per mutation, you can have Gene check a selected wolf for a specific mutation from the drop-down menu. This will only reveal if your wolf is a carrier for the chosen mutation rather than all of the available ones. Choosing a recessive mutation will then open up the drop-down to select a wolf to check for the specific mutation you're seeking.
