Meet the Matchmaker

From Grouse House Wiki

Meet the Matchmaker is a simple storyline acting alongside February's Matchmaker event! This month's storyline is interwoven with its mechanics. By playing this event normally, you will be able to progress in the story! You can begin this story right when the event begins at 00:00 on February 1st.

The storyline is separated into two branches - one for the matchmaking part of the event and one for the dating part. You may notice some crossover between these two as you progress, but each is controlled only by how many matches you make and how many dates you go on, respectively. Despite being given options on many pages of this story the options you make during the storyline do not affect the outcome of the storyline or the rest of the event as a whole. Feel free to pick whichever options sound best to you, and get the same ending as everyone else!

Completion of each storyline branch rewards you with 100 Lovebugs, for a total of 200 Lovebugs when if you complete both!

Introduction

Introduction

It's the season of love! Your packmates and wolves from other packs have been mingling and socializing, and there's been an abundance of frolicking going on. It's been busy, and the energy in the air crackles with electricity.

Your ears pick up the sound of chatter, and you cross into a clearing that's full of activity. Wolves from all over have congregated here and they seem to be...going on dates?

Before you've gone more than a few feet, a purple-and-gray furred wolf bounds up to you, excited and out of breath.

"You there! You seem like you're the perfect candidate for love!"

Their eyes dance happily as they assess you. Love? What is this strange wolf talking about?

"Love is in the air, you see, and I mean to find every wolf their happy ending. I have no interest in the intricacies of love myself, but I do like helping others find their perfect match!"

They tilt their head and study you curiously.

"My name is Eranthis, by the way. I can't quite get a read on you...what say you? Do you want to help me and help your fellow wolves find their perfect match? Or are you lonely and want to find love yourself?"

The choice you make on this step only affects which mechanic you learn about first. You will be able to access both afterwards!

Chapter 1

"Splendid! Just the answer I was hoping for. You know this area and the wolves here best; you'll be famous for your matchmaking abilities in no time!"

They sit beside you, and with a claw they begin to scratch out a diagram in the dirt.

"There's just a little bit that you need to know about making the perfect match..."

"You can have a total of up to 10 wolves in the agency at one time. Hopefully, you'll be able to find a match there! But don't worry, if you can't, you can always ask wolves to leave and wait for new wolves to join."

"Matching wolves is about matching up traits. All wolves have their own preferences, and the more preferences you can match, the better the outcome!"

"Wolves can go on a total of 3 dates each. They can only date a particular wolf once, and the outcome of that date will determine how likely a match between the two wolves would be."

"Make sure to give both wolves an item for the date, and try to make sure it matches their preferences, or it might end up disappointing them!"

"After the date is over, you can go back to take a look at how it went. If it went well, you could think about matching them! Matching them is final, but the end goal for you and the wolves. Once the wolves are matched up, they'll leave the agency as a couple, and the success of the match will determine what kind of tip they'll leave you!"

"Got all that, huh? You learn fast! Now let's see how you do with some real clients. I have some lovely wolves that would like to be matched. Think you can find at least one match?"

The storyline will continue after you send a pair of wolves on a date.

"Perfect! A natural, like I knew you would be. Let's send them off on their dates! After the dates are completed, try to match at least one pair!"

The storyline will continue after you successfully match one pair of wolves.

"I think the word is starting to get out... More wolves are starting to arrive. Can you keep matchmaking them?"

The following chapter is unlocked after making 5 matches, then re-visiting the Matchmaking page.

Chapter 2

Wolves have been vying for your attention all day it seems. Eranthis trots into the clearing, trailed by a small cluster of wolves. They're chatting excitedly, and gesture the group over to you when they catch your eye.

Oh boy--more customers!

"[NAME]! I've found you some more wolves that want to try out your matchmaking skills!"

They laugh, amused at your surprise.

"Yes! Isn't it exciting? Say, how are things going? Do you think you're cut out for this?"

They wag their tail with a grin.

"That's the spirit! The proof is in the pudding, eh? You've got more customers!"

The wolves behind them look hopeful and eager, and begin to crowd around.

"Hey, one at a time!" Eranthis barks, not unkindly, and turns to you. "Are you ready for some more matchmaking?"

Eranthis nods in understanding.

"Of course! You haven't done too many matches yet so that makes sense."

The wolves behind them begin to crowd up behind them, and they're nearly shoved into you.

"Okay, okay!" They bark out a laugh and shoot you a grin. "There's only one way to get better--do some more matchmaking! Are you ready?"

They tut and bump your shoulder with their head encouragingly.

"Nonsense! You've made successful matches already--if you weren't any good, you wouldn't have been able to do that!"

Excited murmurs pop up from the wolves behind Eranthis, and they wag their tail expectantly.

"See? They can't wait to have you match them!"

The following chapter is unlocked after making 15 matches, then re-visiting the Matchmaking page.

Chapter 3

You send your most recent matched wolves out for their date, and let out a long stretch. This matchmaking stuff isn't as easy as Eranthis makes it look.

You peer around the clearing for them, and you see them emerge with a pair of wolves you sent off not too long before. They look like they've been rolling in the dirt. What's going on?

"[NAME]! We have a problem."

They let out a sigh, gesturing to the matched pair.

"It seems some animals don't approve of all this dating and have been ambushing wolves while they're off minding their own business with each other. These two aren't the only ones who have had an issue, either. Honestly, the nerve..."

They fall into unintelligible muttering, and after a moment shake themselves.

"We need to teach them a lesson. I'm so busy with making matches that I don't have time to go chase down these ingrates. Are you willing to do it?"

"Defeat 4 whitetail bucks, blacktailed bucks or muskox. They should leave us alone then!"

The storyline will continue after you defeat 4 whitetail bucks, blacktailed bucks, or muskox in Explore, then return to the Matchmaking page.

Exhausted, you return to Eranthis, who looks like they've been grooming themselves in your absence. Didn't have time to help because they had matchmaking to do, eh?

"How did it go? Did you teach them a lesson?"

"Ha! I knew you'd be the perfect match for them."

They stretch languidly and look at you expectantly.

"Now that that's out of the way, we can make more matches!"

"Good! And you see, I just finished with my latest match right before you arrived."

They stretch languidly and look at you innocently, as if they hadn't just made it up as an excuse to get out of fighting.

"Now that that's out of the way, we can make more matches!"

The following chapter is unlocked after making 30 matches, then re-visiting the matchmaking page.

Chapter 4

After matching so many wolves, it's a wonder there's any left to match.

You look across the clearing and see Eranthis talking to three wolves who are sitting together, grooming and relaxing. The wolves seem content, and Eranthis seems overjoyed. A successful match?

One of the wolves nods your way when they notice you looking, and Eranthis turns and brightens, bidding the group farewell and trots over to you.

Their eyes dance and they look like they can barely contain their excitement.

"My first polycule match of the year! Don't they look so happy?" They watch them with a smile for a few moments, then abruptly whip around go nose-to-nose with you.

"Now, my friend, I have a proposition for you. Business is booming and so many wolves have been matched already. Let's make it a bit of a friendly competition from here on out! First one to make 50 matches wins!"

They let out a woof of excitement and dance in place.

"I like your attitude! Let's get on with it, then—if you win, I'll make it worth your while with a nice prize. But you'll have to win first!

Eranthis turns and lopes out of the clearing to reach the lucky 50 pairings. Better get going!

"Oh come on, it will be fun, I promise." There's a bit of a pout to their face and they look at you imploringly. "I'll even make it worth your while--if you win, I'll give you a nice reward!"

Well, if there's a reward involved...

They perk up at your nod, and dart away with a shout.

"Last one to get to 50 matches is a rotten duck egg!"

"Nonsense!" they retort. "You're just as good at this as I am. I'll sweeten the deal—if you win, a nice reward is waiting for you!"

Rewards are nice, but is it worth it? Maybe...

They let out a snort at your expression and bump shoulders with you before leaping away.

"Come on, you can do it. If not, I'll just keep the reward for myself!"

It's now or never!

The following chapter is unlocked after making 50 matches, then re-visiting the matchmaking page.

Chapter 5

You sit back and look around the clearing. It's still busy, but you've just matched your 50th pair and they trot off happily. Does that mean...?

"[NAME]! Did you make it to 50?" Eranthis bounds up to you and glances around. "Could it be? We've actually matched that many wolves?"

They plop down beside you.

"What a rush! I can't believe it...but wait a minute!" Their eyes widen and they look you up and down, then seem to realize they returned after you did.

"Were you here before me? Does that mean you won?"

Their brow furrows and they shake their head.

"Not really...I guess I didn't think that far ahead. Not much of a competition then, was it?"

They look embarrassed, and after a moment of awkward silence they turn and disappear into your den nearby.

"Oh well, we'll just call it a draw. You can still have this." They return and shove a nice reward toward you. Sweet!

Eranthis rolls their eyes.

"You would, eh? Well, I suppose since you were back here first I can give you the win."

With a laugh they disappear into their den, and trot back out with a reward.

"As we agreed. Good job!"

Letting out a huff, they accept your pronouncement.

"Beginner's luck! But still, nicely done, [NAME]. There's nothing wrong with a little competition, but in the end it's about getting every wolf their happy ending and that's what matters."

Their tail thumps happily, and they rise to their paws. Without a word, they disappear into their den in the clearing, and return a moment later with your reward.

"A deal's a deal. You've earned it!"

They seem satisfied with the outcome, and watch you warmly as you take the reward.

You got +100 Lovebugs!

"I'm happy we met, _____. This was so much fun. Plus, we managed to match 50 pairings each." Their tongue lolls and true joy is etched on their face.

Matchmaking really is fulfilling for them, isn't it?

"I hope now you see why this is my calling. It could be yours, too!"

They bark out a laugh and look at you in amusement.

"Don't look so glum! You've got things handled here. I intend to move on and set this up elsewhere. It's been such a success, there's no telling how many happy endings I can help make!"

They go into a stretch, and look ready to head off.

"Maybe I'll see you again, hmm? You never know!"

With that, they bound out of the clearing and disappear from view.

Dating Storyline

Progression of chapters in this storyline branch is dependent on the amount of dates you go on with dateable NPCs. To quickly see how many dates you've been on so far, you can follow this user log link and count the entries.

Chapter 1

"Wonderful! Looking for your perfect match, eh? Don't worry, we'll find that special someone!"

They sit beside you, and study you thoughtfully.

"Before we start, can I ask you how you identify?"

"Okay, great! That will help me find some matches for you."

They pause for a moment, as if lost in deep concentration.

Suddenly they snap to.

"I think I have some wolves you'd like to meet! Just let me know when you're ready and I'll introduce you."

Three dates step forward. They each have something to say.

[Introduction 3]

"Now that you've had a chance to talk to them all, which one do you want to go on a date with?"

"Don't forget - you can take a gift with you for your date! Why don't you go and find something they might like? Perhaps it will make the date go more smoothly!"

Eranthis is bursting with happiness at the successful date.

"That went perfectly! I knew this would be a success. You've only just begun; won't you go on another date?"

This interaction will occur if your first date was successful.

Eranthis looks a bit sad that the date didn't go as planned, but they can't be stopped for long.

"First dates don't always go well; don't worry! I'm sure you'll do better next time. Try again?"

This interaction will occur if your first date was unsuccessful.

The following chapter is unlocked after going on 5 dates.

Chapter 2

You see Eranthis excitedly chatting with a group of wolves in the middle of the clearing. A few of them you recognize, but a few are newcomers. You've met so many wolves lately!

They spot you and bound over to greet you.

"[NAME], there you are! How are things going? Have you met your special someone?" Their eyes are bright and face eager, and you can tell they really seem to enjoy this.

They wag their tail, their head bobbing in a nod.

"Of course! Love takes time. Luckily we have plenty of time for you to meet your match. Are you ready to go on some more dates?"

They gasp in delight and and prance in place excitedly. What an odd thing to do!

"Wonderful! Of course, you've only been on a handful of dates and there's so much possibility out there. Won't you date some more? It's a good way to meet other wolves, even if you've already met your match."

Their face falls, and they look sad.

"I'm sorry. I must not be matching you with the right wolves...I'm off my game. Give me another shot? I promise I'll do better!"

They grin, and gesture back towards the group of wolves.

"That's the attitude like! What are you waiting for, then?

Let's go meet some more wolves!"

They laugh and nod toward the group of wolves behind them.

"You're a good sport. I think you'll like this group; they're a lively bunch. Let's introduce you!"

Eranthis looks relieved, and they puff their chest out. Determination is written all over them; they'll find you a match if it's the last thing they do.

"Come on! Let me introduce you to some more wolves."

The following chapter is unlocked after going on 15 dates.

Chapter 3

Returning to the clearing after your most recent dates, you see Eranthis looking rather disheveled, talking to a pair of irritated wolves. They don't even notice you as you approach, and you catch the tail end of what they're saying:

"...don't worry, I'll see what I can do."

The pair nods, and with a start Eranthis turns.

"[NAME]! You're back just in time. I need your help."

They scowl, lips peeling back from their teeth.

"It seems some animals don't approve of all this dating and have been ambushing wolves while they're off minding their own business with each other. Honestly, the nerve..."

They fall into unintelligible muttering, and after a moment shake themselves.

"No matter. We need to teach them a lesson. I've managed to intervene a little, but you'll probably be much better at it than me. I'm not a fighter."

"Defeat 6 coyotes. They should leave us alone then!"

The storyline will continue after you defeat 6 coyotes in Explore, then return to the Matchmaking page.

Exhausted, you return to Eranthis, who looks like they've been grooming themselves in your absence. Using their time wisely, it seems.

"How did it go? Did you teach them a lesson?"

"Ha! I knew you'd be the perfect match for them."

They stretch languidly and look at you pointedly.

"Now that that's out of the way...ready for more dating?"

"Well that's good, because I have your next date already lined up!"

The following chapter is unlocked after going on 30 dates.

Chapter 4

After going on so many dates, you head back to see Eranthis on tired paws.

They're talking to three wolves who are sitting together, grooming and relaxing. The wolves seem content, and Eranthis seems overjoyed. A successful match?

One of the wolves nods your way and Eranthis turns and brightens, bidding the group farewell and trots over to you.

Their eyes dance and they look like they can barely contain their excitement.

"My first polycule match of the year! Don't they look so happy?" They watch them with a smile for a few moments, then abruptly whip around and go nose-to-nose with you.

"Now, my friend, it's your turn. You have to make your match soon before the month is over. It's time to get serious! Are you ready?"

They laugh. "Yes, I mean you have to make a decision! These wolves are looking for their match, too. If you aren't it, they still want to find theirs. It's only fair that we don't make them wait too long."

There's movement at the edge of the clearing, and more wolves trot in.

"Perfect! Here are some of the last candidates for you. I'm sure you'll enjoy meeting them!"

Eranthis lets out a snort. "Well, you don't have to be...but you did agree to this, after all. It would be a shame to disappoint the new matches I have lined up, too. Here they come now!"

There's movement at the edge of the clearing, and more wolves trot in.

Eranthis gestures and begins to move forward without you.

"Let's go meet them!"

With a wolfish grin they bump their shoulder into your congenially.

"I like you. Always ready for the next thing, aren't you? Speaking of which, your next matches have arrived!"

They turn as movement at the edge of the clearing draws your gaze and more wolves you haven't met yet pad into the clearing.

"Come on! Your match awaits!"

The following chapter is unlocked after going on 50 dates.

Chapter 5

Eranthis bounds up to you when you return from your final date. They look expectant.

"Well? You've had a lot of dates now! Are you any closer to finding love?"

You hesitate, pondering your answer. Did you find someone? Or perhaps all this romance stuff isn't really your thing?

Eranthis lets out a cheerful howl.

"Fantastic! Oh, I'm so happy for you, [NAME]! I wish you many seasons of happiness with your new partner."

They turn away and hurry over to a small den. Was it theirs? They return with a special reward.

"Take this! You deserve it. Maybe it will help with your new love life, too."

"Oh..." they look sad, and a bit disappointed. "Well, it's not easy to find your special someone. At least we tried, though. Did you at least enjoy it?"

They tilt their head and look at you curiously.

"What is it?"

They perk up. "That's all that matters, isn't it? Who knows, maybe one day we can find your match!"

With a grin they turn and get something from a nearby den, looking pleased despite the result.

"Here, take this! You were a good sport with it all. I hope you'll find some use for it."

They let out a deep sigh and look at you for a moment, contemplating. What are they thinking?

Without another word they disappear into a nearby den, and return a moment later with something in their jaws.

"Here, [NAME]. Take this. Even if you didn't particularly enjoy all of this, you deserve something for sticking with it."

Their eyes widen in surprise, then they grin at you.

"Well, why didn't you just say so? That's perfectly fine! Nothing wrong with that."

They turn toward their den and return a moment later with something clutched delicately in their jaws.

"Here, take this! A little something for being true to yourself."

You got +100 Lovebugs!

You got +100 Lovebugs!

You got +100 Lovebugs!

You got +100 Lovebugs!

They wag their tail as you accept the gift, and look so overjoyed that it's reminiscent of someone finding love. But Eranthis doesn't want anything to do with romance; they'd rather help others. Your success makes them fulfilled.

"Take care, [NAME]. It was nice to meet you and help you find your happy ending."

"Take care, [NAME]. It was nice to meet you, even if you didn't find your match."

They brighten when you accept the gift, and seem satisfied. You can tell that they're still a bit sad. They may not want anything to do with romance themselves, but any success or failure they seem to take personally.

"Take care, [NAME]. Things didn't go as planned, but it was nice meeting you."

They seem pleased when you accept it, and there's a sense of camaraderie towards you.

"Take care, [NAME]. Things turned out different than I thought, but I can't say I'm displeased. It was nice meeting you, friend."

They bark out a laugh and look at you in amusement.

"This land isn't the only one with wolves, you know. I intend to move on and help as many as I can."

They go into a stretch, and look ready to head off.

"Maybe I'll see you again, hmm? You never know!"

With that, they bound out of the clearing and disappear from view.
