Every year on April 1st, something on-site gets a bit... weird.

Wolvden has played April Fool's jokes on its players every April 1st since before its opening! These jokes never affect the game's mechanics directly or add anything new to do. Instead, they have just changed something visually about the site to make it a bit more bizarre than usual. April Fool's Day jokes can always be turned off on your Profile page. If you're not a fan of the bit, simply check the Disable April Fool's box!

Wolvden wasn't yet released in 2019 and April 2020, but that didn't stop an April Fool's joke from being played. The developers announced that they were taking the game in a "frivolous" new direction... Moon-Moon Den! The logo on the Wolvden landing page changed to reflect this and, to this day, www.moonmoonden.com still redirects to Wolvden.

On April Fool's Day in 2020, in celebration of the beginning of Wolvden's beta testing, its sister site Lioden got a Wolvden-themed makeover, as well! Every lion was replaced with a pre-made wolf determined by their base group, with three possible options for each group.

Black
Cream
Gold
Red

Wolvden got a bright new appearance! Every page was changed to add this very Comic-Sans layout, complete with a vibrant pink background and gradients galore.

Players in chat noticed something off this year. All text in chat was UwU-ified! This effect applied to everybody, admins and moderators included.

This year, every wolf went grayscale. Wolves, backgrounds, and decor all got a black and white filter!

April Fool's Day 2024

April Fool's Day in 2024 leaned into Wolvden's "simulator" nature. Players were given four new, Sims-esque needs to manage: Bladder, Hygiene, Social, and Fun! Status bars for these needs appeared in the sidebar underneath your lead wolf's other attributes. Overtime, the status bars would naturally decay. Once they hit zero, you could restore them to 100% again using a button that would appear above each bar. These values had no effect on actual gameplay and were purely visual.

Clicking on the button to restore each need would generate a random flavor text from the below possibilities.

Pee (Bladder)
Oh yeah, that's the good stuff.
Ah, much better.
Gotta find the right place... this'll have to do.
Whew, that was close!
Groom (Hygiene)
Gotta keep up appearances!
All clean!
Just a little touch up...
Looking good!
Chat (Social)
Nobody around, gotta keep up the internal dialogue.
A little weird talking to yourself, but it's fine.
Just a little pep talk.
Just a little chat with yourself...
Play (Fun)
That rock was just asking to be fetched.
Squirrel!
Big stick, big stick!
Just a little game of chase... with myself.
